as no danger to the public. >> reporter: fairfield police wouldn't give a motive and whether jones knew the victim. police say jones acted alone in this killing. allen, they say he will appear in court wednesday. >> da, they're not talking about a motive but are they talking about jones' background? does he have a record? >> reporter: they wouldn't comment on his background. we have gotten any information on that yet. >> all right. we'll wait for that. da lin, thanks. a vigil in remembrance of 13-year-old genelle conway allen will get under way in about an hour. the community is planning to gather at allan witt park in fairfield at 6:30. the fbi says a bay area man was trying to trigger a civil war with help from the taliban. the plot hinged on the plan to blow up an oakland bank. what the suspect didn't know he was working with the feds the whole time. kpix reporter linda yee has the story the details. >> reporter: the target was this bank of america branch

near the oakland airport. domestic terrorist suspect matthew llaneza who lives in san jose told the fbi he wanted to blow it up an act of violent jihad he hope would create a government crackdown leading to civil war. so met with a man he thought it was connected to the taliban and the mujahideen in afghanistan. it turned out he was an undercover fbi agent. the suspect brought the undercover agent here where they could do a little surveillance. the suspect pointed out some of the support beams where they could possibly park that car bomb and when it detonated, it would bring down this entire bank. and according to the criminal complaint, llaneza told the fbi agent he would dance with joy when the bomb exploded. bank customers today were shocked to hear about the plot. >> yeah. not good. i don't like to hear things like that. that's kind of scary. >> wow. surreal. you know? it's as real as you're going to get for something to come that

close to home. happily -- hopefully -- thankfully it was thwarted. >> reporter: the plan was to get a storage locker in hayward and build the bomb in the back of an suv. the fbi rented a unit and when the agents showed it to him, llaneza laughed and hugged the agent. together, they built the bomb using harmless simulated chemical explosives. the fbi says llaneza loaded 12 five gallon buckets into the back of an suv each containing what he thought was a powerful explosive mixture. he bought two cell phones, one to be used as a detonator, the other as a trigger. so it was just after midnight today when the suspect drove that suv to the bank, parked under the overhang, took one of his two cell phones that he figured would detonate the bomb, and instead federal agents came out of nowhere and arrested him. now, llaneza hatched this plan

back in november. he was able to be fooled by that fbi agent all these months up to his arrest today. live in oakland, linda yee kpix 5. tens of millions are in the path of the nor'easter in in new england. some spots would get up to 2 feet or more of snow. cars are banned from the roads in massachusetts and officials throughout the region are warning that the time for preparation has passed. >> if you are leaving to go buy milk at this point you're doing the wrong thing. >> this is a storm of major proportions. stay off the roads. stay home. let the public works crews do their jobs. >> air travel also a nightmare. more than 3500 flights have already been canceled. chief meteorologist paul deanno is watching the latest developments with that storm for us. paul. >> allen, big time snow fall from atlantic city to cape cod

including boston. live picture in boston right now where winds are gusting at 40-mile-per-hour and snow coming down heavily and we have a blizzard and blizzard warnings in effect. here's a look at the storm. it's a huge strong low pressure area passing just to the south of the east coast passing just to the east of atlantic city. that means all the cold air is getting dragged down from canada but all the moisture is piling in from the atlanta. the i-95 corridor heavily traveled, philadelphia, new york, hartford, providence, boston, all going to see more than a foot of snow. the heaviest snow along the i- 95 corridor and i just saw a report of thundersnow being reported in providence. the big-time problems there of course getting in and out of there will be a huge problem especially when it comes to planes. roberta gonzales is at sfo with details on the flights. >> reporter: more than 60 flights were canceled here at sfo due to that potentially historic blizzard that's converging with a secondary storm system blasting through

the northeast. this morning, this was the scene right here at sfo with upset passengers learning about cancellations of their flights heading out to the eastern seaboard as well as the northeast. they were told by united airlines that there is a special area set up for them for rebooking flights, possibly tomorrow night and on sunday. so they have an extended stay right here in san francisco. but the delays are not just being felt nationally. they are also being experienced internationally. this is what one passenger had to say about her flight from hawaii to finland. >> i feel i should go back to hawaii because we came from hawaii yesterday so why didn't they call us there and say, you don't have to come back? >> reporter: so that woman obviously a bit on the upset side as well but we are here now 10 hours later after the early grass that today now look

door methodically searching 200 cabins in the area. >> we could see tracks in this kind of condition, the snow is great for tracking folks as well as looking at each individual cabin to see if there's any signs of forced entry. >> 33-year-old christopher dorner is wanted in connection with the killing of three people one of whom is a police officer. dorner has vowed revenge on those he says cost him his job with the lapd including law enforcement personnel and their families. oakland's newly hired police consultant and the man who was police chief when christopher dorner was in the lapd spoke to "cbs this morning." he explains why he believes dorner has stayed quiet in the last day. >> police training is he is aware that anything that he uses electronically can be zeroed in on so he is possibly staying silent because of that. >> bratton describes dorner as an incredibly dangerous individual. headlines around the bay area, a man who slipped out of handcuffs and out of san jose

police custody is back behind bars. anthony sanchez was able to escape and steal a police van a few days ago. police say he was still wearing two sets of handcuffs when he was found sleeping in a stolen truck last night. and police are looking for a thief who cashed a stolen truck into a concord shopping center. the suspect drove the truck through the front of the t- mobile store in the clayton valley shopping center around 6:00 this morning. the robber stole several phones and ran off leaving the truck behind. chopper 5 was overhead in san jose this afternoon as police searched the area around santa teresa sa and avenita espana. police say a homeowner came home, interrupted a burglary in progress. police searched the area but didn't find a suspect. a special dedication for a fallen chp officer. how the newest officers are paying tribute to kenyan young stram and his family. >> how the blitz workout can shake up your routine and keep

to children. environmental scientists say the change would mean there's no longer a need for furniture makers to use toxic flame retardants inside the furniture. >> 85% of our furniture already meets the smalledder standard. >> reporter: under the in proposal couch fabric will be required to withstand a smalledder test meaning it won't catch fire when in contact with a smoldering object like a cigarette, heater or extension cord. current standards require the foam inside the furniture withstand a 1-second exposure to a small open flame. that requires those chemical flame retardants something fire scientists say is counterintuitive because it's the fabric that catches first. >> more realistic about how things catch on fire. >> reporter: he says the new standard is much safer. and he is one of many that says it's long overdue. >> it's a win-win situation. >> reporter: now, the proposal goes through a six-week public comment period before a final standard is adopted. meanwhile, the chemical industry maintains these flame
